Captain's call

Posted on 17 September 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Jamie Redknapp insists the team must 'stick together and fight on' ahead of the visit of Southampton to the Lane on Saturday.

The captain expressed his natural disappointment over the last two results, but says it is a time for the team to show character against the Saints and put themselves in good heart for the Carling Cup trip to Coventry the following Wednesday.

"We've got to keep going, stick together and fight on - we've got a massive game on Saturday against Southampton and then Coventry away," he said. "We've really got to show character now - it is as important for us as in any time of the season."

Jamie says that this is the mood among the players, to put the recent results behind them and seek to get back to the manner of performance shown against Leeds and Liverpool previously.

"Most definitely. We know what we can do on a good day, but we also know we are giving away silly goals. We went from having two fantastic performances - Leeds and Liverpool - to have two really disappointing ones.

"We can change it around, if we can get a good result on Saturday it will give us a good lift for the cup game. We want to get a good run in the Carling Cup and the most important thing now is that we stick together."
