Canaries calling

Gus Poyet is fully aware of the importance of our first pre-season friendly back on UK soil at Norwich City tonight (July 28).

We travel to a sold-out Carrow Road for a 7.45pm kick-off against Glenn Roeder's Championship side.

It's our fourth preparation match of 2008-09 following training ground friendlies against local sides Tavernes and Denia and a much tougher test against La Liga Segunda Division side Hercules during our training camp in Spain.

Meanwhile, the Canaries returned from their training camp in Sweden with two wins out of two against Ahlafors and Falkenbergs respectively.

"Hercules was a good step for us and this is now the first serious game back in England," said First Team coach Gus.

"It will be our first match in front of our supporters and we know there will be plenty of them at Norwich, so it's important we perform well.

"We want to maintain our work so far. We're looking at match fitness - a few players will now start to play the full 90 minutes - and a winning mentality. It might be a friendly, but we want to win

"Norwich play good football and they will be up for it - especially at the start - and they will want to beat us at home, for sure.

"I remember playing in a pre-season friendly at Norwich in my time playing for Spurs and it was tough, so I expect exactly the same. It's a big game at this stage for both teams."
