Hans Segers has been full of praise for Robert Burch’s performances and application in pre-season.
Niggling injuries meant the young keeper didn’t enjoy the best of times last season but has come back well this summer — culminating in an impressive display for the first team in the friendly win at Reading when Radek Cerny had the leave the field injured.
“It’s amazing how things turned out,” said Hans. “I spoke to Martin Jol because Burchy’s been outstanding in pre-season and I said it would be great to get him in the squad at Reading.
“Of course, typical, he then had to come on for Radek who cut his head on the post.
“He did a great job, made an early reaction save and it was his reward for pre-season because he’s set his mind on doing the work and I’m very pleased with him. It worked out well.”
