And our Yugoslavian defender says the departure of Sol Campbell has upped that pressure a little more.
“There is a great pressure on me,” he said. “I am very sorry because Sol left but life goes on and I came to Tottenham, the club sleeps for many years but Gus Poyet is here, Teddy Sheringham has come back, Christian Ziege — we have more experience, internationals and hopefully we can be in Europe next year.
“It is a big pressure on my shoulder but not just me, all the guys in the defence, Gary Doherty, Chris Perry, Ziege.
“Sol was the skipper and the main target in defence but now we have to be together, work together in pre-season and if we speak, we can play well.”
‘Bunje’ has impressed in friendlies as he comes to terms with the English game.
“Teams are very strong and have powerful attackers, more tackles, more long balls, a faster game. I’m learning from game to game and I’m hoping in the future to play very well.
“I came to England to learn. We have a great manager, great guys at the club who support me and great fans here.
“The guys tell me that the Premiership is stronger, faster.
“I’m just an ambitious guy. I want to see, want to learn and want to play. It’s a little early for me, a lot of pressure, but I am starting to prepare for that.”
Goran Bunjevcevic admits he feels a great pressure on his shoulders as he prepares for his first season in the Premiership.
