Michael Brown reports that he enjoyed the summer break, but is now delighted that preparations for the new season are now in full swing.
The squad returned to work 12 days ago before heading off to Sweden for a pre-season training camp that included three games. 'Brownie' looked more bronzed than most as he revealed he clocked up the air miles during the holiday period - all the time keeping an eye out for events back at the club.
"I did have a nice break and got away a few times, but I am obviously now happy to be back at work," reflected the midfielder, who said that news of Jacques Santini's appointment was relayed to the players across the world via a text message, along with one to announce the arrival of Martin Jol.
"Obviously there was a lot of speculation every day in the newspapers, but we actually received a text message off the club to say he had been appointed then another to say the coach had been appointed.
"You do keep an eye out for news, especially when you are on holiday. You tend to read the papers every day to pass the day by and keep up with the speculation."
Michael now feels that the foundations are now in place to really take the club forward in the forthcoming seasons and admits he has not witnessed such an overhaul of a management structure during his time in the game.
"Definitely, I've never seen changes like this at a club before with all the staff that have been appointed. We are all going to pull in the same direction and hopefully it will be a good thing for everybody."
Looking ahead to the new season, Michael says the first two really catch the imagination but, before that, there is the small matter of a return to his former club for a pre-season friendly on Sunday.
"There are some fantastic early fixtures with Liverpool and Newcastle - you don't get much better than that. There are also some great pre-season friendlies and we are straight into them next week.
"It will be nice to go back to Sheffield and I think it was part of the thing with me coming here. I'm looking forward to it and I've had some stick off the lads already.
"They've made a few signings and hopefully they can do it this year."
