The midfielder picked up the knock in the friendly against FC Copenhagen during our training camp in Sweden last week.
Although he's running again and travelling with the squad for friendlies against Hull City on Saturday and United on Sunday, the injury is unlikely to be ready in time for him to run out at Bramall Lane again.
Brownie spent four successful years with the Blades before his switch to Spurs in January.
"I'm disappointed, I've been looking forward to this game for a long time," sighed Michael at Spurs Lodge this afternoon. "But I've got to look longer-term and it's not worth the risk.
"It's still a little sore anyway and realistically, I've got to make sure it's right. I'm running again but kicking the ball is a problem at the moment.
"I'm travelling anyway and will do a bit of work with the physio and fitness coach. I'll be at the game whatever."
