Opta statistics before the weekend clash against Manchester City showed Michael throwing himself into a tackle every 13 minutes - the fastest rate in the Premier League.
It's that spirit that has endeared him to the fans and the Head Coach alike.
"Browny has given us so much energy, spirit, so much stamina, it's amazing," said Martin.
"If you have to pick a player, it has to be Browny yet people underestimate that type of player.
"I put him in the team from the first day. He was in the team at Burnley, my first game, and hasn't been out since. I did the same with Michael Carrick."
Nevertheless, while the two Michaels have been a regular feature of the side - they've started 21 of the last 26 games since Burnley - Martin is boosted by the return from injury of Sean Davis.
"It's good Sean is now back, he was a good player for us at the start of the season," added Martin. "We also have Pedro Mendes and they have to fight for places. That's what we want."
Michael Brown's all-energy game and never-say-die attitude has certainly left its mark on Martin Jol.
