Michael Carrick joined Martin Jol in praising Michael Brown’s performance at Manchester City.

With Edgar Davids and Teemu Tainio out, Browny’s first start since the draw at Blackburn in August saw the return of the Carrick/Brown central midfield partnership for the first time since last season in a fine 2-0 victory at the City of Manchester Stadium on Wednesday night.

“It was a big game for Browny going back to City,†said Michael. “You always want to do well when you go back to your old club and I thought he was brilliant.

"Having said that I don’t think there was a bad player amongst us

it’s not often you can say everyone is on top of their game but that was the case

Head Coach Martin added: “Browny is always pressurising and he’s got a big heart. I’m always happy with him.

â€ÂHe’s not been in the side but he knows Edgar Davids is a big player for us, JJ is doing well, Michael Carrick as well, Teemu and we can only play three or four in midfield.

“Every time he gets his chance he does well so I’m very happy with him.â€Â
