Bring it on - Daws

Michael Dawson insists we are ready for whoever comes out of the hat when the draw for the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League is made on Friday.

We will be paired with one of the following teams:

- Barcelona

- Chelsea

- Inter Milan

- Manchester United

- Real Madrid

- Schalke 04

- Shakhtar Donetsk

That says it all. This is the cream of European football, and ‘Daws’ believes we have shown we are more than capable of holding our own at this level.

Grinding out a 1-0 aggregate Round of 16 victory over seven-time champions AC Milan was an achievement the defender feels proves this, as well as topping a group that consisted of holders Inter Milan, Dutch champions FC Twente and Werder Bremen earlier in the competition.

So our current captain knows we have nothing to fear and claims we are relishing the opportunity to further test our credentials in European football’s elite club tournament.

‘Daws’ said: “We’re playing in the Champions League against the best teams in the world. We’re a top team and we want to test ourselves against the best.

“AC Milan made us change the way we play but, credit to us, it was a fantastic result to win 1-0 out there and to keep a clean sheet at White Hart Lane was good enough to get us into the next round and we’re looking forward to the draw.

“It means a lot to everyone. When you look around the dressing room you realise there are a number of us who haven’t played in the Champions League before.

“We’ve done well to achieve what we have done so far this year but we want to go as far as we can in this competition.

“Whoever we get, they’re going to be a top team. We’ve come up against top teams in the group stages and then AC Milan, so we’ll be ready for whoever we get and we’ll look forward to it.

“Hopefully we can enjoy more nights like last week.”

The draw for the quarter and semi-finals of the Champions League takes place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, starting at 11am UK time.
