Gus Poyet is expecting a wide open game when we take on Newcastle United in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday.

The Magpies fielded three strikers - Michael Owen, Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins – in their last league game against Fulham, and they will be coming to The Lane wanting to make it two wins on the spin.

But Gus is confident that we will be on a high after taking four points from our last two games and believes the home crowd will be behind us as always.

The First Team Coach said: “It’s difficult to play two games in a row at home, let alone three, so we must be focused because Newcastle come here needing the points.

“They’ve got four points from the last two games and they need wins, so I think it could be a very good game.

“They play with three strikers, which is quite interesting, so it means somebody on the pitch is going to find the space to get forward. I can see a few goals.

“But we’re playing at home and we need to get as many points as possible, so we’re looking forward to the game.

“We’re on a high after the last two games and now we need to keep that up. We know we’re in the middle of nowhere in terms of the table, but we need to do it for the supporters.”
