David Pleat feels that Ledley King and Anthony Gardner could well form the long-term cornerstone of our defence under the new manager.
Ledley, once again, returned to the back four against Blackburn and then Wolves, having featured there alongside Anthony in the Arsenal game three weeks ago.
The pair, both capped by England this season and aged 23, certainly have time on their side to cement long-term places in the heart of our rearguard.
"It is quite possible, although it will be down to whoever takes over the team and he will have to decide that," considered David.
"It is always hard with younger players at the back because they are always likely to make small mistakes."
Ledley has also shown his versatility this season and took on the midfield enforcer role for a long spell before returning to his more natural environment.
"I needed King in the midfield just to give us that little bit more bite and he did that. We were unfortunate that he got injured for one or two important games.
"Ledley has has done fantastically for us, he is a superb player and a credit to our Academy."
