The manager announced his decision on a successor to Teddy Sheringham to the official site after the game against Sporting Lisbon and he feels the captaincy will bring the best out of the stylish midfielder.
"We have made him club captain and I think it will make him step up and take that extra responsibility, which will help the club," reasoned Glenn.
He also agreed that Jamie's standing and popularity with players and staff alike made him the ideal candidate for the honour.
"Yes, I think he is the right man for the job. I think he will have a positive season, appearance-wise - he should be fit to play most of the games although he might need a rest here and there.
"A rest is certainly different to having an injury."
