Boro first

We travel to the Riverside to face Middlesbrough on the opening day of the 2008/09 Barclays Premier League season, Saturday August 16.

Our first home game of the campaign the following weekend is against another North East opponent Sunderland.

Saturday August 30 then sees us travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the first of our big London derbies.

We are scheduled for our first meeting with North London rivals Arsenal on Tuesday October 28 at the Emirates Stadium, and the Gunners visit The Lane on Saturday February 7.

Our first clash with reigning champions Manchester United is at The Lane on Saturday December 13, and we go to Old Trafford on Saturday April 25.

Other fixtures to look out for include the visit of Liverpool on November 1, with our trip to Anfield coming on the final day of the season (May 24).

Chelsea come to The Lane on March 21, while we travel to Upton Park to face West Ham United on December 6 with their visit on April 11.

THIS IS VERY MUCH A PROVISIONAL FIXTURE LIST AND ALL FIXTURES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Sky TV and Setanta will make their early selections soon, although televised dates will not be confirmed until early July.

Please also note that our UEFA Cup involvement (as these are mainly Thursday night games) will see league games being moved from Saturday to Sunday as we progress.

Our UEFA Cup involvement means we are also exempt from the second round of the Carling Cup and enter that competition in the third round.

For your information, we enter the UEFA Cup at the first round stage again and the draw will be made on August 29. The first round dates are September 18 and October 2.

Full fixture list will follow soon...
