I'VE GOT to admit I just couldn't see where Saturday's performance against Fulham came from.
I always felt it was going to be difficult because we'd had two hard games and Fulham had a rest for a period, but that's not an excuse - they deserved their win.
They were better than us all around the pitch, sharper, quicker to the ball, quicker to the second ball and individually, one on one, they were better than us.
My biggest concern is the way we lost the goals. They could have been averted. If you are not playing so well you can always get in the game but we didn't, it was a poor performance and very disappointing.
We went 1-0 down against Leeds last week and we could have won that game by a lot but ended up winning 2-1. We are making it very difficult for ourselves. We weren't functioning at our best and suddenly found ourselves 1-0 down and everyone was looking at each other.
On these occasions you have to dig deep and turn a poorish performance into one that can get you back into the game and perhaps get a win when you are not playing well. That's what I said to the players. They have to recognise that and dig in, but we went quiet on the pitch.
We didn't show enough character and we let the fans down, let ourselves down and where they got behind us last week, this week, rightly so, in the last 10 minutes there was disgruntlement and that was fair comment.
Our performances this season have been excellent even at Birmingham, where I thought our performance was right and we were close to winning it but got nothing. Leeds was excellent, Liverpool a great defensive display and lots of good football and solidness - I couldn't see that one coming.
