Harry Redknapp said it was important to take advantage of results going our way by winning at Norwich.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal drew with Fulham, Blackburn and Wolves respectively in the Premier League on Boxing Day and Tuesday.
It meant victory at Carrow Road would consolidate our place in third and that’s how it turned out as Gareth Bale’s double in the second half secured a 2-0 win and another three-point haul.
“It was a big game for us,” said Harry. “The results went our way but we had to make use of that by picking up the points.
“It shows how difficult it is to pick up results. You’d have said before the weekend Liverpool home to Blackburn was banker home win. Chelsea home to Fulham, you’d fancy Chelsea and Arsenal at home to Wolves, you just can’t see them not winning.
“I thought everyone would win and we would need to win to keep pace with them.
“There are no easy games. You looked at the matches and you thought the teams around us would win, but they couldn’t win, they ended up drawing, only United won.
“Three points are hard to come by and Norwich have done brilliantly, so it was a good performance and a good win for us.
“We’ve got tough games coming as well, Swanasea, West Brom, Wolves, all scrapping for their lives. We’ve just to try to keep picking up points.”
