Our Under-18s kick-off their FA Premier Academy League campaign against Manchester City on Saturday.
It's a real test for Alex Inglethorpe's squad as City won the FA Youth Cup last season and won their division of the FA Premier Academy League (FAPAL) by nine points from Everton and a full 19 points clear of rivals Manchester United in third. They were denied the national Academy title by Aston Villa in the play-off final.
"I think we have outstanding players here and in terms of their development and where we're going it's ideal to play the best teams around and Manchester City are in that category," said coach Alex.
"This pre-season we've played so many top teams and done so well, it will be great to take on one of the best teams in the country to see exactly where we are."
Having achieved runners-up spot in two summer tournaments - the Eurofoot in Belgium and Santiago Tournament in Spain - the lads completed another successful pre-season with a 2-2 draw against Manchester United last weekend.
They led 2-0 thanks to goals from Paul-Jose M'puku and Jon Obika (pictured right) before United rallied with two goals in the final 15 minutes. "United had the better of the first half but we dominated the second half and deserved our two-goal lead. It was a shame not to hold on but it was a great game of football," added Alex.
