The midfield marauder was back after an eight-month absence but looked as if he'd never been away in the Worthington Cup victory.
In his first game since knee surgery in January, Steffen hustled, bustled and harrassed, refused to let Cardiff settle and, once he'd won the ball, hardly gave it away.
"Steffen did very well," said match winner Teddy, who bagged his fourth goal in six games on the night. "He looked sharp and enjoyed being back, you could tell that with how he played.
"He's very effective. You can't knock the way he plays.
"He covered the ground so quickly, put players off and sometimes you need that in games.
"He did well on the ball as well, kept it ticking over in midfield and that's what I want from my central midfielders, to make sure that we keep the ball."
Teddy Sheringham joined the chorus of praise for Steffen Freund after his successful return to action against Cardiff City.
