David Bentley admits that, just like the rest of us, he has caught a bit of football fever on the eve of our big kick-off at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
And his excitement has doubled after a dream start to his Spurs career with three goals in his three pre-season games since joining from Blackburn Rovers last month.
The England international's form has been synonymous with the way the team as a whole have performed during the summer but, as an experienced Premier League campaigner, ‘Bents' is not getting too carried away.
Although as confident as ever about our chances, he knows we will be in for a hard day's work against Gareth Southgate's north-east side.
David said: "I can't wait for it to start. I've had a smile on my face all week just thinking about it. There's nothing like the first day of the season - it's a carnival atmosphere.
"Everything's gone well on a personal level and a team level, but that was pre-season, all the settling in and getting to know each other - the real work starts on Saturday.
"You've got to hit the ground running, but we've put ourselves in the best shape possible and we've got the right attitude.
"Middlesbrough will graft. They do work hard and it's always a difficult place to go because they will come at us.
"If we go out with the right mentality, it's a game we should win, but we've got to be winning every game, so it's just another game in the fixture list that we're looking to win."
As for David himself, Boro are a side he may be quietly pleased to be kicking off his Spurs league career against.
The 23-year-old netted his first senior goal against them back in January 2004 and, exactly a year ago, he scored in Blackburn's 2-1 win at the Riverside on the opening day of last season.
"They're one of those teams against whom I seem to do well and, touch wood, hopefully that continues," he added.
"I went up there with Blackburn on the first day of last season and we did well to win, so hopefully the same will happen for us."
