The boss described the defender as one of few plus points from our FA Cup nightmare at Southampton the week before.
'Thatch' was a late withdrawal from Sunday's plans after suffering on Saturday night.
Glenn revealed: "Ben unfortunately was touch and go but had a bit of food poisoining on Saturday night.
"He couldn't eat, had a little food on Sunday but in the end I had to make a tough decision because he did well for us at Southampton, he was one of our brighter sparks in that game.
"But Gary Doherty came in, he's been out a long time and stuck at it and did well for us in the end. Ben understood the decision but it was a shame for him."
Glenn Hoddle admitted it was a shame for Ben Thatcher to miss Sunday's win against Everton after a bout of food poisoning.
