The trip to Southampton on Wednesday December 27 looks a feasible target with the defender hoping to be ready for action in a week to 10 days.
It’s a busy time with five games in a fortnight starting with the home encounter against Middlesbrough on December 23.
Thatcher has missed our last two Premiership trips to Manchester United and Bradford City and explained: “I just tweaked the groin on the Friday before the Leicester game and although I was on the bench I still had to come on for an hour and that didn’t do it any favours. It made it a little bit worse.
“I tweaked it again in the week so rather than play on and make it worse and then it becomes a weakness the physio pulled me out of training for a week just to make sure it is right and doesn’t become a more serious problem.
“I’ve been training now for the last couple of days and hopefully I’ll join in with the boys later this week so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
“Hopefully I’ll be training at the weekend and with a week to 10 days training I’ll look to get back into the squad.”
