Benoit Assou-Ekotto believes we must pay no attention to our 1-0 first leg lead going into Wednesday’s return match with AC Milan at the Lane.
The left-back feels the best way to approach the second half of the Champions League, Round of 16 tie is to start afresh – almost as if we were defeated in Italy three weeks ago!
It sends out a clear message that the lads are out to advance to the quarter-finals by winning this game – not resting on our laurels.
Benoit said: “We have to approach this game as if we lost at the San Siro and play to beat them, because if we think we are winning and wait to see what happens, that will not be good for us.
“We have to start the game as if we are something like 2-0 down from the first leg, go on the offensive and try to score goals.
“I don’t think Milan enjoyed the last leg and there was a little bit of tension, so I’m expecting this to be another hard game. I’m looking forward to it!”
It is all set up to be another famous European night at the Lane, and Benoit has loved every minute of our Champions League adventure so far.
He is expecting another electrifying night in N17 and hopes the fans will spur us on to another momentous achievement.
The Cameroon international added: “The Champions League seems to mean so much to people’s lives. We have been used to watching the Champions League, but now we are playing in it.
“The atmosphere will be similar to how it was when we played Inter – maybe even better – and this will help us a lot. When there is a great atmosphere at White Hart Lane, we can beat many teams.”
