Benoit Assou-Ekotto admitted it was a ‘strange sensation' after seeing his wonder strike flash into the top corner of Pepe Reina's net in Sunday's win against Liverpool.
And you can understand the full-back's feelings.
The 44th-minute piledriver that set us on the way to a memorable 2-1 opening-day win against the Reds in the Barclays Premier League was the first senior goal of Benoit's career in his 152nd game.
Television replays later showed that the full-back thumped the rebound from Tom Huddlestone's original free-kick back past Reina at 55mph.
"It was a good goal against a good team and we played well, hopefully we can play like that for the rest of the season," said a delighted Benoit before reflecting of the effort itself.
"We had the free-kick, Tom was feeling good so I said ‘okay, you shoot' and when the ball came back to me I tried a shot, it went in and it felt good.
"The sensation was strange, but very good. I hope I have the same sensation again this season!"
Benoit has performed better and better since returning from a serious knee injury at the start of last season.
This is his fourth season at the club and he admits that experience is starting to pay dividends.
He added: "I know the Premier League now, I know how to play in the league and I know my team, so it's easier for me to play."
For the record, it was Benoit's first goal for us in 64 appearances plus 88 during his time at RC Lens in France.
