Ben Davies was thrilled to pull on the Spurs shirt for the first time in Wednesday night’s 3-2 win over Toronto.

Our new left-back, who arrived from Swansea City along with goalkeeper Michel Vorm this week, made his debut in our entertaining pre-season victory against a Canadian MLS outfit that’s now home to former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe.

Ben started the match at BMO Field and played the first 45 minutes, during which Erik Lamela gave us a two-goal advantage, before he and the rest of our outfield players made way for 10 different faces as wholesale changes were implemented at half-time.

Toronto hauled themselves back level in the second half, but Andros Townsend’s late strike secured the win for us in the second of three matches on our Tour of the USA and Canada.

Ahead of our last outing on the other side of the Atlantic against Chicago Fire on Saturday evening (1am Sunday, UK time), Ben confirmed he took plenty away from his first game as a Tottenham player.

“There are a lot of areas I can improve on, but it was great to get that first start,” said the 21-year-old, who has so far won 10 caps for Wales.

“To get 45 minutes under my belt for Spurs was important for me.

“We’re adapting to the manager’s style of play and passed the ball well. That’s important in this system.

“We didn’t give away too many chances and we were clinical at the other end. We looked like a good side.”
