Boss Glenn Hoddle revealed at the weekend that he had tabled a bid for Liverpool’s unsettled German international. If successful, Ziege’s arrival would certainly turn up the heat on Ben.
Signed last summer for £5m from Wimbledon, Ben admits last season was ‘a nightmare’ as first he struggled for form before a nagging groin/hip injury ended his season in November. He is now working through the summer to be ready for pre-season.
Ben said: "I’ve been injured for the season which means I haven’t had the chance to play and when I did I either played with an injury or had a bad game.
"You could link 20 players with Tottenham every week to be honest. Christian Ziege is a quality act up at Liverpool and anyone who comes in and is good enough is good for the club and good for the squad. I have no problems with that.
"I don’t know how the gaffer is going to play, flat back four, five - but playing wing-back didn’t suit me last season. I did myself an injustice by playing out there.
"The gaffer will have his own shape and players he wants to get in. I have to try and impress him and see what happens from there."
Ben Thatcher insists he would welcome the arrival of Christian Ziege, should the experienced 'leftie' decide on a move to the Lane.
