'Hard to put a finger on why' - Ben on late goals

Tue 29 August 2017, 12:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Ben Davies suggested the team could be more ‘streetwise’ after being undone by a late goal for the second time in as many weeks against Burnley on Sunday, although he doesn’t believe we’ll be haunted by similar problems in future.

Chris Wood’s 92nd-minute equaliser ensured Sean Dyche’s men left Wembley with a share of the points after a 1-1 draw, seven days after Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso popped up with an 87th-minute winner for the reigning champions at the national stadium.

Left-back Ben, who has started the season as he ended 2016-17 - in eye-catching form - was left scratching his head as to the root of the problems over the last fortnight, but underlined his belief that, because conceding late goals is such a rare habit for our current group of players, there’s no need to panic.

“It's difficult to say, it's hard to put a finger on it,” said the Welsh international when asked why we fell to another late sucker-punch at the weekend.

“We'll reflect on it over the next few days. It could be managing the game better, being a bit more streetwise perhaps, but I don't know.

“I'm sure it's going to be a rarity, though, because we haven't been known to concede late goals, it's just a shame that it's happened for the last two weeks.

“We're not too worried to the point that we think it's going to happen regularly, it's just disappointing on this occasion but the next few times I'm sure it won't be a problem.”
