BARNEY'S MIXED FEELINGS

Lee Barnard's reaction to another goalscoring performance for the reserves was typical of his growing maturity as a player.

"Barney" certainly wasn't glowing after his 25-yarder secured a 2-1 win against West Ham at Dagenham on Tuesday night - his fourth goal in six games so far this term.

Instead, this and last season's top scorer was more concerned about the opportunities he missed that could have let the Hammers back into a game that should have been dead and buried.

I HAD PLENTY OF CHANCES AND I KEEP GOING OVER THEM IN MY HEAD OVER AND OVER AGAIN, THINKING I SHOULD HAVE PUT THEM AWAY

"I was disappointed not to score at least a couple more but I was happy to score the winner. That was probably the hardest chance of the lot!

"I'm pleased we won the game and we're doing well but disappointed personally I didn't score more. I suppose that's how you have to be as a striker. I'll continue working hard on my finishing in training."

His coach Clive Allen added: "Barney could have had a hat-trick but the positive thing is that he's getting into the positions and getting the opportunities."
