The young striker made it seven goals in five FA Premier Reserve League outings by notching after 24, 35 and 88 minutes in the 5-0 victory against Coventry City at Nuneaton Borough FC.
However, there was some doubt whether or not 'Barney' had reached the ball for his second goal before it crossed the line for what would have been an own goal.
It looked from the grandstand that Lee had won the race even though the lads insisted it was an own goal!
"It was definitely mine," said Lee afterwards. "I saw the opportunity was going to come when the keeper came rushing out so I gambled and just got there - I definitely just got there."
Lee opened the scoring before a devastating spell of three goals in six minutes before half-time put the game beyond doubt after the home side had Tim Partridge sent off.
Eddie Silva Sousa and Mark Yeates with the goal of the night from 30 yards completed the scoring with Barney's hat-trick arriving just two minutes from time.
"I didn't think it was going to come but luckily the chance arrived and it feels great to score a hat-trick," added Lee. "Things are going well at the moment and it's great to be amongst the goals."
Lee Barnard was quick to claim his first hat-trick for the reserves despite some leg-pulling from his team-mates last night.
