The young striker netted his first of pre-season against Northwood - just reward for the workrate and application he displayed in difficult conditions.
"You know what you're going to get with Lee," said Colin of the 19-year-old. "We expect it and I think it's important that you never forget the effort that he puts in, the movement he makes and the runs he makes.
"It would be all too easy just to say that is normal for him, but he puts in a shift that not too many other people put in."
Lee, who recently signed a new contract at the club, missed nine weeks of last season with a broken bone in the hand, but Colin feels he can make up for lost time this term.
"He scored a goal here and gets his reward in that way and I think he'll score goals this year from the positions he's going to get himself into."
Colin Calderwood has backed Lee Barnard to be among the goals in the forthcoming reserve league campaign.
