Outstanding in midfield for the last couple of months, King stepped effortlessly back into a back three in the stunning FA Cup victory at Charlton.
With Gary Doherty playing so well up front King may yet find himself in defence again at Manchester City on Saturday if the manager is tempted to stick with the same formation.
Naturally, King will be happy to play anywhere. "It’s been going well for me in midfield but I thought I did all right at Charlton," he said. "As long as I’m playing that’s the main thing."
The fourth round win was another high is what, especially on a personal level, is turning into quite a memorable season for the 20-year-old.
"I suppose you could call that a typical cup tie!" he reflected. "Charlton started well but I thought we were brilliant in the end after being 2-0 down.
"To be fair I didn’t think we ever believed we were out of it. We were still creating chances and we knew that if we could pull one goal back we could go out and get another and that’s exactly what happened.
"They only had one chance in the first half and scored from it and we just had to keep doing what we were doing. Obviously it was then difficult when they scored again but we stuck at it and in the end, got what we deserved."
