Kers going back to school!
Next week may be half-term for children up and down the country but for former Spurs player and now Assistant Football in the Community Officer David Kerslake, the week will be anything but a holiday, as David and the rest of our FITC FA qualified coaches will again be running our popular coaching courses at schools in the local area.
'Kers' as he is known, took a quick break in the preparations to tell us more: "Half-term is one of the busiest periods for the scheme. We have courses in 20 venues involving anything up to 1,000 children being coached by 50 coaches, so it takes a lot of preparation time. But although a lot of hard work goes in to planning it’s worth it because as soon as the coaching begins you see straight away how much the children enjoy it."
The courses are open to children aged 6-14 irrespective of ability. According to David, it’s all about having fun: "The courses are a great way to develop skills whilst at the same time have lots of fun with other children. We have loads of games for them to play and they all get some Spurs goodies too. Even if you’re not the next Robbie Keane, everyone can have fun at the camps and they are really good value."
In addition to the external camps, we will also be holding courses in the ball court at White Hart Lane Stadium. On top of the course, children attending get an extra bonus as David explained: "Yes that’s true. Children who come to courses here at White Hart Lane also get to enjoy a behind the scenes look at the ground, a walk down the tunnel and even a chance to sit in the dug out!"
