Martin Chivers and his All-Star Spurs XI took part in a friendly match with Latymer Old Boys on Sunday in a recreation of one of our first ever games.

The ceremonial match, which took place at Botany Bay Cricket Club, Enfield, marked Latymer’s centenary year and was attended by around 400 people. It also coincided with our 125th year celebrations.

The Spurs side included Chivers himself, along with the likes of Garry Brooke and Paul Moran, but the home side ran out impressive 6-1 winners.

The Latymer goals came from Peter Collop (2), Darren Luff, Tom Beresford, Aaron Robinson and Garry Glennard. Andy Edmonds scored in reply for Spurs.

It meant the admirable efforts of club members to get up at 8am on Sunday morning to clear four inches of snow off the pitch did not go to waste!

Latymer Old Boys chairman Alex Barnes said: “Latymer feature prominently in the early history of Tottenham Hotspur and we are delighted to be able to help them celebrate their 125th year.”

Former Spurs striker Moran, one of the stars of Chivers’ side, added: “Despite the result, it was a good day and great to see so many Spurs fans out in force and enjoying themselves. The two clubs share a lot of history so it was good to be involved and to help Latymer Old Boys celebrate their 100th birthday, which is an amazing milestone for any club."
