Away form key - Ledley

Ledley King is happy to be at home for next season's opener - but knows improving our away form is vital.

Liverpool will be the visitors for a cracker at White Hart Lane in the Premier League's opening weekend on Saturday, August 15 - all fixtures subject to change.

We lost just once in 21 games in all competitions at the Lane following Harry Redknapp's arrival in October including beating Liverpool twice, in the Premier League and Carling Cup.

We're unbeaten at home in 15 games in all competitions and 11 Premier League matches stretching back to December.

By contrast, we won only four of our 19 away games in the Premier League last term and had to wait until November for the first, at Manchester City.

However, that away record could have been all-so different but for late, late defeats at Newcastle, West Brom, Wigan, Bolton and Blackburn.

"First of all, it's nice to be at home on the first day," said Ledley. "It's a big test for us as Liverpool were strong last season. They were missing vital players at key times and that probably cost them in the end but they ran United right to the wire in the title race and they will be looking to go that step further.

"It's important for us to continue our home form next season if we want to be the team we're all hoping we can be and then we have to be better away from home.

"As I've always said, our fans are great and when they get behind us we're a tough team to beat at White Hart Lane.

"There has been a difference between us at home and away and that's evident in our results. We have to improve our away form.

"I'm sure both teams will go into the first game a little nervous and perhaps not knowing quite what will happen on the day, but we're determined to make a positive start."
