Away day first in Premier League

Our victory at Manchester United on New Year's Day marked the first time we've won four-successive away matches in the Premier League era.

Goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen secured a fine 2-1 win at Old Trafford.

That made it four on the trot on the road in the Premier League after victories at Fulham, Sunderland and Southampton.

The last time we won four away matches in a row was under Terry Venables in the old Division One in March and April, 1989. The Premier League's first season followed in 1992-93.

Those wins in 1989 were as follows:

March 22 - Forest 1-2 Spurs (Howells, Samways)
March 28 - Luton 1-3 Spurs (Walsh, Gascoigne, Howells)
April 15 - Wimbledon 1-2 Spurs (Waddle, Stewart)
April 29 - Millwall 0-5 Spurs (Stewart 3, Samways, Walsh)

That run ended on the final day of the 1988-89 season when we lost 1-0 at QPR.

Our next away game in the Premier League is at Swansea on Sunday, January 19.

Skipper Michael Dawson - who has started every Premier League match this term - played a huge part in the win at Old Trafford as United piled forward in the latter stages.

"It was a fantastic win, we scored the two goals, got ourselves in front and then dug deep and showed real character," he said.

"It's the same story wherever you go in the Premier League, every game is tough, especially away. You have to show that spirit and determination, just like we did against United."
