Fierce rivals in cricket's greatest contest, the Ashes, Jonathan Trott and Merv Hughes are united in their love for Spurs.
Just after the conclusion of another thrilling Ashes series, England batting hero Jonathan - he scored a century in the series-clinching final test at the Oval - and Aussie bowling legend and current selector Merv spoke to hotspur magazine about all things Spurs.
Merv reveals he started supporting the club in the early 1980s. "I went to a mate's house to watch the FA Cup Final, everyone in the house was supporting the other team except the guy I sat next to. He was English, and I told him I was with him 100 per cent. Spurs won and I've supported them ever since."
The FA Cup played a key role for Jonathan as well. "My first vivid Spurs memories are probably from the 1991 FA Cup semi-final. Around then in Cape Town we'd just started getting satellite television. I've always remembered Gary Lineker's second goal more than Gazza's free-kick; he lay on his back after scoring and that was it, we were in the final!"
So do they make it to the Lane much? "I was there for Manchester United," said Jonathan. "I was playing for Warwickshire in the County Championship against Sussex and we managed to see them off by lunchtime. Thankfully, I laid my hands on some tickets, so my team-mate Rikki Clarke and I headed along. It was a bit of a dash and I missed Jermain Defoe's goal, typically, but saw United's!"
Merv added: "I had been hoping to get to the Lane for the first game of the season against Liverpool, though as you can expect the schedule is pretty tight when we are over here, and tickets are of course difficult to come by. The Aussie fast bowler Peter Siddle is a Liverpool fan, and he'd been giving me a bit of stick after seeing me on the bus with my Spurs shirt. After that opening clash I looked at him and said 'I wouldn't be saying too much if I were you, we've just knocked you over!'"
