Kevin Bond paid tribute to the lads for refusing to give up on three points against Birmingham City.
Having dominated for long periods, Peter Crouch finally headed us into the lead after 72 minutes at the Lane only for the visitors to equalise three minutes later.
With seconds left of added time, Roman Pavlyuchenko crossed for Aaron Lennon and the winger stepped inside two defenders before driving the winner into the bottom corner.
It made it four wins out of four in the Barclays Premier League, the perfect start as we now go into an international break.
"We would have been kicking ourselves if we'd let two points slip," said assistant boss Kevin. "We dominated and just didn't get the goals we needed.
"Of course, when we did score, we then only had ourselves to blame for conceding a goal and not dealing with a ball in our box.
"That equaliser rocked us on our heels, we lost our shape, our discipline and it's the effect conceding a goal like that can have on you.
"At the same time it gave them a huge lift and it was anyone's game after that but we've players like Aaron Lennon, players who can make a difference and he scored an unbelievably important goal for us.
"We were never going to give up, for sure. We were at home and we had the three points but gave them away, or at least two of them. We had to go right to the end and this time it happened for us.
"Over the balance of play we thoroughly deserved to win but when you look at the manner it all happened, I'm sure Birmingham went away frustrated and I felt for them."
