Tip on 10

09 March 2010

The Club has taken up the 10:10 challenge and has committed to a 10% cut in carbon emissions and we'd like you to join us.

The more people that get on board with 10:10 the better and it's not as difficult as you think.

This week's tip - Recycle your mobile phone

There are more mobile phones in the UK than people, and research shows that on average people have at least two each. With many people granted free yearly upgrades from their networks, mobile phones are constantly being updated, replaced and disregarded.

It is estimated that there are 90 million redundant mobile phones in the UK. Not only would disposing of these use a great deal of landfill space, it would also cause further harm to the environment due to the fact that mobile phones contain a number of potentially dangerous substances.

Mobile phone recycling is not only simple but will also help the environment or even charitable causes. Mobile phone recycling allowes phones to be reused where possible or recycled safely when they are beyond repair.

Recycling your mobile phone makes financial sense as well as being kind to the environment. There are a number of websites that offer recycling services and all those disregarded old handsets could earn you some pocket money!
