Niko Kranjcar admits that he considered asking his new England team-mates at Spurs to help Croatia in their bid for World Cup qualification.
"We were looking for England to do us a favour by preventing a Ukraine win," says Niko. "But when you are left relying on other results you cannot have any complaints if things don't go your way."
Kranjcar is the main interview in the November issue of hotspur magazine. And he is convinced that Croatia's time will come again.
He jokes: "Given that Aaron Lennon, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch are all regularly involved in the England team, I was considering offering some bribes...maybe a home-cooked Croatian speciality or two. But really I don't think it would have been enough of an incentive!"
But now Niko is convinced that England - inspired by their Spurs influence - can do well in South Africa.
He says: "You speak to a number of impartial footballers and there is an idea that England possess possibly the most quality of all the top sides and, with that, maybe a very real chance of winning the World Cup."
