Niko's Wembley target

09 March 2010

Niko Kranjcar put to one side the personal emotions of a potential FA Cup semi-final showdown with his former club Portsmouth at Wembley to insist: "All that matters is getting there."

The Croatian playmaker was asked how he might feel about that semi-final pairing after Saturday's goalless draw at Fulham in the quarter-final - and before the semi-final draw had been made!

As it turned out, Sunday's draw paired the winners of our replay at the Lane on Wednesday, March 24 with Pompey at Wembley on the weekend of April 10-11.

Niko joined us from Fratton Park in August having made 100 appearances for Pompey between 2006-2010.

"It's quite a hard game (for me) with all the emotions but on the other hand you want to be in the semi-finals and it doesn't really matter who you get, you want to get through and then into the final," said Niko at Craven Cottage.

"The important thing is to get past Fulham and then you'd be happy with anyone.

"There are still big teams in there and every team in that semi-final will believe they can win."

Niko felt we deserved at least a draw at Fulham. "Perhaps we could have created a little more going forward but overall I think a draw was a result both sides deserved," he said.

"Fulham have proved this season and last season that they are tough team to beat at Craven Cottage. It's a tough place to play and generally, we're happy with the draw."
