Luka Modric took real pride in captaining the team in our Barclays Asia Trophy opener against West Ham in China on Wednesday night.
The influential Croatian midfielder wore the captain's armband in the first half against the Hammers before Robbie Keane took over again in the second half.
Luka led the side out at Beijing's Worker's Stadium before leading by example on the pitch - he was his inventive self and always involved in our attacking play as Jermain Defoe's goal in the 75th minute secured a 1-0 win.
We now take on Hull City in the final on Friday (July 31) with an 8.30pm kick-off local time, 1.30pm in the UK.
"It's always a big honour for a player to be chosen as captain and it was an honour for me to be captain of Tottenham," smiled Luka.
"I was delighted to have been given the opportunity and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd like to thank Harry for choosing me."
So what was the captain's assessment of our performance? "I thought we played well, it was our best performance so far in pre-season," said Luka.
"We have to be happy with how we played, especially in that heat.
"We need to keep going, to keep improving and be ready for the first day of the season. Liverpool is a very tough game on the opening weekend and the start of the season is very important."
