Gomes - Team all that matters

30 December 2008

Heurelho Gomes believes we're starting to see what he's all about - but the keeper will take points over his own form any day of the week.

The popular number one has made a string of key saves in recent weeks against the likes of West Ham, Manchester United and Fulham.

He was outstanding again at West Brom on Sunday with one particularly memorable save from a Chris Brunt free-kick but it was to no avail this time as a controversial late opening goal from Roman Bednar, clearly pushing Michael Dawson in heading home, paved the way for a 2-0 win for the home side.

"I want to be at the top and I'm happy with my form, my performances have been better," said Gomes back at Spurs Lodge.

"The last two months have been better than the start and I'm helping my team-mates, that's important.

"Everyone here has helped me so much and that means a lot to me.

"But the most important thing is the team and we lost, so that's not so good. It was such a disappointment to lose at West Brom. The goal was a foul in my opinion and it was a crucial moment. Everyone was down.

"The team is most important, always. On Sunday, Tony (Parks, his coach) said to me afterwards 'come on, you did well' but for me, when I play well and the team loses, it's no good. I just want us to win."
