Students from schools across Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest have been studying the new Enterprise Academy programme delivered by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and sponsored by Barclays. The programme aims to engage and teach young people about enterprise and business skills including finance, sponsorship, marketing, business plans and organisational charts all within a football club context.

Glenn said: “The Enterprise Academy programme offers many of the key skills that I needed to demonstrate throughout my time on the The Apprentice. Understanding business elements such as marketing, finance, customer service and understanding products and services are crucial in all walks of life and I would love to have been involved in a similar programme whilst I was at school. Linking football with business is a great way of engaging young people and cementing their understanding in an enjoyable way.”

Gareth Dace, coordinator of the Enterprise Academy programme at the Foundation, said: “We have worked with over 400 young people this year and the programme has had a profound impact on their understanding and interest in business and enterprise. A lot of young people watch The Apprentice and this reinforces their interest in setting up their own business and entrepreneurship. Therefore, it was a great link to be able to bring Glenn in to speak to the students about his experiences on the show and in business. The event was a great day and we were pleased to be able to congratulate the students on their achievements.“

The students also enjoyed a performance by 2010 Epping Freestyle Football winner Alex Palmer and were presented with the new Enterprise Challenge for Global Entrepreneurship Week which last year Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and St Mary’s CofE School in Cheshunt won at Old Trafford.

Enterprise Academy, which is fully accredited by the OCR exam board, will continue in the new academic year in 20 schools.
