Anderlecht v Spurs - Mauricio's preview

Posted on 22 October 2015  - 15:10

Mauricio Pochettino wants us to outplay Anderlecht in a bid to pick up three more points in Europa League Group J this evening (Thursday, October 22).

We face the Belgian side at Constant Vanden Stock after a win and a draw in our first two matches in the competition put us on top of the group.

Now the challenge is to stay there and, while he admitted playing away from home in Europe is no easy task, Head Coach Mauricio has challenged the players to get the better of Anderlecht on their own patch in a bid to take another step towards securing qualification for the knockout stages.

“It’s very important to get the three points,” said Mauricio.

“We want to stay in the competition for the next stage but Anderlecht is a very good team. Today it is easy to have information on all teams and we know all about Anderlecht, their players and the style that they play.

“They have a lot of good players and also we are playing away – it’s always difficult to play away, but we need to try to perform as well as we can and try to win the three points.”

Following our last outing on the continent – a 1-1 draw in Monaco three weeks ago – Mauricio spoke of his frustration that we were unable to secure victory.

When asked what the key will be to making sure we take all three points this time around, he responded: “You never know, but we need to play better than Anderlecht.

“In Monaco we deserved more but we conceded the draw. It’s a different match now but we need to play better than our opponents and try to win the game.”
