Michael Dawson ruefully admitted 'it wasn't our day' after a Tim Krul-inspired Newcastle took the Premier League points back to Tyneside on Sunday.

Krul made 14 saves as we fired in 31 efforts at goal but couldn’t find a way through.

In the end, Loic Remy’s goal after 12 minutes clinched maximum points for the Toon.

“The first half wasn’t good enough, well below par from our standards,” reflected Michael.

“We got in at half-time, the gaffer was far from happy and we regrouped.

“We were fantastic in the second half but we couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net. Tim Krul made some incredible saves. It wasn’t our day.

“There is nothing better for a team when your goalkeeper is playing like that.

“I looked at the clock after he’d made a couple of saves, it was 53 minutes gone and I thought ‘we’ve still plenty of time to score’.

“Everyone was behind us, the atmosphere was fantastic and I’m gutted we couldn’t get that first goal to give us a chance to perhaps go on and win it.

“It’s a huge disappointment not to have taken anything from that game.”
