Alton reflects the gloom

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Alton Thelwell reflected the dejected mood in the dressing room after Saturday's defeat against Leeds United.
The result broke our hearts on three fronts - our first defeat of 2001, our first home defeat in the Premiership and the end of what could have been a record-breaking run of clean sheets.
Thelwell lamented: "Everyone is gutted. We've been doing so well at home and we wanted it to continue throughout the season.
"I suppose it had to come to an end at some time but we're all disappointed it had to be now."
The young defender's misery was complete when he shouldered the responsibility for the winning goal having played two Leeds players onside when Lee Bowyer shot from the edge of the box.
It was a pity because he had been outstanding against the threat of Keane, Viduka and Kewell after coming on as a second half substitute.
"I thought I did okay but I was disappointed with their second goal because I was the one playing them onside," he added.
"We knew Leeds would be on a high after the Champions' League and we knew they have real attacking quality in Keane, Viduka and Kewell. I knew it would be hard but I just wanted to do my best."
Listen to Alton's views by clicking here
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
