'We all wanted that win' - Son, Dier, Alli, Kane and Dembele on United and Lane finale

Mon 15 May 2017, 13:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Goals from Victor Wanyama and Harry Kane - how apt, the last goal from a Spurs player in the famous old stadium - saw us home 2-1 against United and secured second place in the Premier League, our first runners-up spot in football’s top flight since 1962-63.

Speaking to the players on their last lap of honour, walking alongside Spurs greats to have graced the same hallowed turf, here’s what they had to say…

On the performance against United
“Everyone knew it would be tough against United but we were determined because it was the last game at White Hart Lane. Everyone wanted this win. I could see that straight away and the way we played this game… it was another great performance.”

On the day
“It was an unbelievable day. I’ve played here for two years and I’ve loved playing here, loved the atmosphere, love the people. I’m proud of all my team-mates and just happy for all the staff and the fans. We have so many good memories and to finish second in the Premier League is a great achievement. Now it’s an exciting time as we move to a new stadium.”

On the day
Eric: “It’s fantastic to share this moment with the fans. We’ve had a fantastic time here under this manager and all the history before it as well, so it’s fantastic we can enjoy this all together with all the legends as well.”

On finishing second in the Premier League
“It’s been a really good season. Obviously we’re all disappointed not to finish first but it’s an improvement on last season and now we have to make sure we keep going and hopefully next season, you never know…”

The perfect finale…
“It’s been an emotional day but what a finish. To score the winner, to win the game and finish strong and finish unbeaten here is something special. This season is a progression from last season and we have to keep it going now. We have to keep working harder, keep getting better and hopefully next season we’ll finish first. It’s a proper send off to what has been an amazing stadium for us. I couldn’t be happier.”

MOUSA DEMBELE

On the finale and finishing second
“It was emotional. It was a nice game and we’re all happy we won. Obviously there are a lot of memories here for everyone and we go away with a good feeling. It was very important to finish second – obviously we hoped for more because we’ve played so well this season – and we ended it here by playing well against United, we deserved to win.”
