Acimovic takes his bow

Posted on 3 June 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Milenko Acimovic took his World Cup bow on Sunday, but his introduction as a 63rd minute substitute could not prevent Slovenia slipping to a 3-1 defeat to Spain in Group B.

Raul and Valeron swept the Spaniards into a 2-0 lead by the 74 minute mark, but Slovenia caused a few flutters when the deficit was reduced on 82 minutes with a goal from Cimirotic. Hierro settled the nerves with a penalty two minutes from time.

Acimovic, who has agreed on a switch to the Lane from Red Star Belgrade, looked lively when he entered the fray and made several jinking runs that suggest he will cause difficulties for a few Premiership rearguards next season.

He was, however, adjudged to have dived in one instance and was handed a caution - much to his disgust.
