Achievement over adversity

The Club, through the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, has been working in partnership with Haringey Council’s Virtual Schools team for nearly 15 years to improve the educational opportunities of young people in the Borough’s care.

There were some shocking statistics released last year around one of society’s most vulnerable groups, with a third of boys and 61% of girls in police custody classified as being in care or having been in care.

However, projects like To Care Is To Do, which sees the Foundation provide extracurricular support to those identified as ‘at risk’ of dropping out of education by Haringey Council, go a long way towards bucking the trend.

The success of this work is celebrated at the Club every year in the Aiming Higher Awards, attended by Ledley King last Friday, and saw over 100 young people in Haringey’s care awarded for their educational achievements over the past year.
