Spurs 3, Milton Keynes Dons 1
Schoolboy Terry Dixon was on the scoresheet as our Under-18s beat Milton Keynes Dons in the FA Premier Academy League.
Striker Dixon and fellow Under-16 player Jake Livermore impressed again as Pat Holland's lads forged ahead 2-0 in the first half with goals from trialist Yannick Manzizila and Joe Martin's fine free-kick.
MK Dons hit back in the second half before Dixon's header settled the matter.
Coach Pat reported: "It was an interesting game because in the last two matches conditions have played a part and we’ve had to battle against the wind and not done too well. This time we did well.
"I thought some of our combination play was good, we came out from the back and tried to play.
"We took the lead after good play from our right side and a cross from Chris Riley to the far post that the young trialist Yannick Manzizila met and slotted away with his left foot.
That was after about 15 minutes and we continued to play constructive football
"The second goal came after we were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box that Joe Martin (pictured above) took on himself, decided to have a go and bent it in the top corner. That was a great individual goal and to see a lad take responsibility like that was good as well.
"We came in at half-time with our tails up and all we said was to be a little careful in the second half because the wind was with us, so we had to keep the ball on the floor and not hit it too long.
"But we didn’t do that, started scrappy and they pulled a goal back when we failed to deal with a ball in midfield and they broke and scored.
"It became a messy game after that. We struggled to get any continuity going and although we had one or two decent moves, our third goal actually came against the run of play when Terry Dixon got around the back of their defence from a corner and nodded home.
"The only disappointment was that we didn’t kick on in the second half but credit to Milton Keynes, they changed their style to stop us playing out from the back and we were forced to play a little longer."
