Our Academy's fantastic run in the prestigious Copa Chivas tournament in Mexico has ended one step from the final.
The lads lost their semi-final 1-0 against Guadalajara-based FC Atlas on Saturday.
Highly-fancied FC Atlas matched our record in the group stages with four wins and a draw and cruised past UAG Tecos 4-0 in Friday's quarter-final.
A close encounter was expected and that's exactly how it turned out at the Verde Valle training complex in Zapopan, Jalisco.
Atlas won it with only goal of the game on the hour mark - leaving just 10 minutes for the lads to find an equaliser in the 70-minute encounter.
However, coach Alex Inglethorpe was left disappointed after a controversial decision to send off defender Yuri Berchiche in the second half.
He explained: "It was a bizarre decision. The Atlas player went down as if he'd been felled by a heavyweight boxer. It was an off-the-ball incident that the officials couldn't have seen yet the decision was to send Yuri off. Suffice to say, the player was quickly back up on his feet.
"That left us with 10 men for the rest of the game and it was always going to be an uphill task in the heat and against the quality of this team.
"Atlas scored after an hour when they broke down the right, managed to overload the box and finished well.
"We had chances. John Bostock hit a couple of decent shots from distance, Kudos Oyenuga went close and Jon Obika had a chance in the second half.
"It was a shame how it turned out but we'll pick ourselves up."
The lads now face host side Chivas in the third/fourth place play-off at the same venue. Chivas were surprisingly beaten on penalties by Monterrey in Saturday's second semi-final.
The teams met in the first game of the tournament on Monday when we ran out 2-0 winners.
Spurs: Jansson, Smith, Byrne, Butcher, Berchiche, Caulker, Ekim (Parrett), Kasim, Oyenuga (Mason), Bostock (Townsend), Fraser-Allen (Obika).
