Our Academy squad look to build on their promising form in tournaments this season when they kick-off in the Tournoi International de Football de Monthey in Switzerland tonight (Wednesday).

This is an Under-20 tournament involving eight teams split into groups of four.

We have been drawn against Sevilla, Besiktas and FC Sion with the other group consisting of hosts FC Monthey, Flamengo, Eintract Frankfurt and Sporting Club of Portugal.

Our first match is against Besiktas tonight with FC Sion following on Thursday and Sevilla on Friday. The top two teams from each group will then contest the semi-finals on Saturday.

"It's another big tournament and another fantastic test for us," said coach Alex Inglethorpe. "We have to recognise what we've done well in terms of winning the Eurofoot and at the same time, think about what stopped us coming out on top in Dusseldorf.

"One thing is for sure, just because we've done well in tournaments so far this season we can't just assume that we'll do well this time. Football doesn't work like that."

As Alex eluded to, the lads have won one tournament and finished runners-up in another this season.

They kicked-off last summer with success in the Eurofoot Tournament in Belgium where they came through a group including Club Bruges and Olympiakos before beating Eintract Frankfurt in the semi-final and Anderlecht in the final.

They followed that with second place in the Dusseldorf Under-19 Tournament in March, an even that attracted Barcelona, PSV, Sevilla, Dynamo Moscow, BV O4 Dusseldorf, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Bayer Leverkusen, Kaiserslautern and Werder Bremen. This time the lads beat Kaiserslautern on penalties in the semi-final before losing out to Dynamo Moscow.

“The tournaments have been fantastic for us both in terms of results, experience and development," said Alex. "We’ve been up against the likes of Sevilla, Ajax, Anderlecht, great teams to judge ourselves against and we’ve acquitted ourselves really well."

Squad: Button, Jansson, Smith, Mtandari, Hutchins, Butcher, Archibald-Henville, Martin, Livermore, Kasim, Rose, Mason, Hutton, Fraser-Allen, Townsend, Olsen, Pekhart, Obika.
